Monday Block 1 Mathematics  9.00 - 9.50

You are to do 15 minutes practice on your subtraction ladder from Math Matters 2 Book and the exercises set for you. Tick off the ones you have completed so you know how well you are tracking, we will be looking at doing the Mastery on Thursday.

Once you have shown your concentrated effort and completion of a minimum of one full exercise, you will be issued your Chrome Book to then log on to Google Classroom 8DAMaths and work on  the Geometry component.
Should you get through the work make sure that all the work that is sitting here for our class has been completed, this is about time management. It is showing your own commitment to your learning journey, we are here to support you all the way, every day we all need to learn a new thing to grow our brain, what can you teach me today? How can I help you?

Monday Block 1 Handwriting 9.50 - 10.20

We are practising our writing.The following piece is to copied out well showing all the skills learnt

• Letters sit on the line
• Letters touch top and bottom line if Capital or l,k,h,t,f
• Letters are at half size and the cross of the t and link of the f and l cross the letter at half way.
• The tails of letters only go a third under the line , y,j,q,p and some style of f.
• The linking serif is visible, not so small the letters can not be deciphered, and not too long so that the word is not concise to view.
• Fluency comes with practice, the more you practice, the easier your brain and hand connect to a natural flow.

Narrative Example

Writing at Level 4 ( Year 8 Expectation)

The expectation is  that in your piece of writing we will see:

1. Correct sentence structure ( full stops, Capital Letters, commas, question marks, speech marks, exclamation marks)
2. Words will generally be spelt correctly, and have at least the major letter/sound combinations correct)
3. Your writing will show sentences put into appropriate paragraphs of sentences linked to a common theme or idea.
4. Language will be rich and descriptive, using verbs adjectives, adverbs, similes,onomatopoeia,metaphors,personification,repetition.
5. Sentences will start with varied and interesting starters to draw the audience.
6. Sentences will be varied in length.
7. The correct writing format will be used to suit the purpose
8. Narrative- Purpose to entertain and provide a problem and resolution.
9. Narrative form can be Fairy Tale, Fable. It is never in first person and is in past tense.
10. Narrative starts with Orientation : (Setting, Time and Place, Who-Character(s))
11. Next there is a complication ( a series of events, problems or conflicts set n paragraphs.)
12. It concludes with a Resolution (Solution to the complication)

Narrative

To tell a story, provide entertainment or make an audience think about an issue, to teach the reader a lesson

Orientation

Tell the audience who is in the story, when it is happening, where it is happening and what is going on.

Complication

This is the part of the story where something happens, usually a problem for the main character, which triggers a chain of events.

Series of Events

This tells how the characters  react to the complication; rising tension occurs, leading to a climax (high point/major drama). It includes their feelings and what they do. The events can be told in chronological order ( the order in which they happen) or with flash backs.

Resolution

The complication is sorted out or the problem is solved.

Coda

The narrator (author) can include a coda (an additional section) if there is a moral or message to be learned from the story.





Here is a simple example:
The Golden Eggs
(Orientation)
One day a farmer went to the nest of his goose to see if she had laid an egg. To his surprise , he found, instead of an ordinary goose egg, an egg of solid gold.
(Complication)
"What a fine goose!" he cried. I can sell this egg for a good deal of money."
Every morning after that, the farmer found another golden egg in the nest. Every day he sold the golden egg. He was slowly growing rich.
But as the farmer grew rich, he grew greedy. One day he said to himself, "My goose lays just one golden egg each day. No doubt there are many more inside her!" And he had no rest until he had killed the goose.
But when he looked inside the bird, there were no golden aggs at all! It was just the same as any other goose.
(Solution)
"Oh my, oh my!" said te farmer. "Why was I so greedy? Now I shall be poor again. I have killed the goose that laid the golden eggs!"

YOUTH WEEK   23rd - 27th June 2016

The aims of Youth Week are to

• Encourage young people to take on challenges
• Raise awareness of the positive aspects of being young
• Empower young people to feel they have the tools and confidence to support each other
• Support youth participation in community planning

This year’s theme is all about giving: whether it’s the way you support your family, your friends or your community, whether it’s the volunteer work you do, the help you give to your neighbours or the way you create space for others who are different from you, whether it’s about sharing your opinions, your voice, your stories or casting your vote when you have the opportunity. What do you give and what gifts do you receive - the hands, hearts and energy that have helped you on your journey.

Good morning my Mathematicians

Please start the morning working from Math Matters 2, on your individual Math Subtraction Ladder work. Remember that a. renaming needs to be shown at all times so we can work together to share the knowledge you are building.
                                    b. renaming is based around place value houses and 0 as a placeholder.
                                     c. We are all learning in this together and mistakes are a learning opportunity.
                                    d. I cant read your mind, if you need help ask, if I offer help and you are stuck take it so we can understand the process together.
                                    e. Subtraction and addition is used every day we shop and hand over money then accept change.

Half way through move on to your mathletics course I have set for you.

NZ FLAG VOTE

NZ's FLAG

Make a Google doc to share with me for your answers.

Currently the Government is looking to change our flag. Currently our Flag has The Union Jack in the top left corner, showing we are an Commonwealth Country led by Britain. This is set on a Blue Background with 4 stars signifying the Southern Cross in the bottom right of the Flag.

1. What do you personally think of our current Flag? Do you like it? Do you think it should change? Justify your answers.
2. Does it concern you that it is very similar to the Australian Flag?
3. If we were to change the Flag which flag do you think we should have? Is it the current design remaining or is it the blue and black with silver fern and stars.?
4. So far the cost of surveying the people of NZ and getting ideas chosen has cost approximately $28 million . Was this a sensible way to spend our money? Should it have been done differently? What do you think should have happened?
5. Will you and/or your family vote to keep or change our flag? (All NZers over 18 currently ave voting papers to respond to this question).
6. Should we get the new flag, how will we rebrand our country so everyone in the world knows and what events will it first be displayed at this year?
7. If you could design a t-shirt to endorse the flag how would you use the flag design?
8. What else would we have to change if we changed our flag? Research all the things our flag is displayed on that would need re-branding.

Once you have answered detail, made a google doc and shared with me  get an A4 piece of paper and draw your T-shirt design.. Must be in fine, clear detail and to publication standard.
